Public Service Announcement #1

You are an adult. Pig tails are NOT acceptable. Unless worn with a costume.

Thank you!

UPDATE: I originally wrote pony tail, when I meant pig tails. Ooopps.

Soooooo tired

Yesterday I picked up a happy energetic baby. When we got home we played with all of our toys, crawled all over the house, did some squats, all kinds of fun stuff. Then we sat in the chair in the living room for a little rest. My energetic child immediately fell asleep. No warning whatsoever. No rubbing of the eyes, no yawning, nothing. She just stuck her fingers in her mouth and crashed.

I got up to help with dinner and she wouldn't even stir. She was so floppy and her eyes were just barely open. We decided to take her to bed, put her jammies on and say good night. At 7 pm.

We got back to her room and put her on her changing table, and she still didn't stir. It was so weird and funny all at the same time.

Bye Bye Paci

The first night home with our little angel was tough. She would only sleep while sucking on my finger. I was so exhausted the next day, and my arm was very sore from hanging it over the co-sleeper. I think it fell asleep several times off and on throughout the night. We had been very adamant about not giving Elsa a pacifier until she was at least 2 weeks old if not a little longer. That second night home came and I gave in. Luckily we did have any issues with her feeding while using it.

Lately, she has gotten very fond of sucking her fingers on her left hand. So fond that she has begun to completely reject her pacifiers. Although I am glad we won't have to go through paci weaning, I'm not sure how to deal with the fingers in the future. The best part of it though is that she can self soothe herself to sleep.  That is a very nice bonus.

Even in Death....

Some people have humor even in death. Take this guy for instance.
As seen in the Gainesville Sun obituaries this week:

"....He was preceded in death by his first love, Ingrid, and is survived by his second love, Ann, stepson Scooter, his dog Stewie, his brother Michael/Carol, son Tony/Robin, grandson Patrick and many loving friends including Kenny, Cartman, Stan and Kyle.
The funeral service will be held in South Park, Colorado so all of his family & friends can attend."

Baby Uelsmann

On Sunday, I had the wonderful delight of meeting baby Uelsmann. He is the sweetest little boy. When I held him, I couldn't believe that Elsa was once that small. It seems like so long ago now (almost a year).

I am so glad momma, daddy, and baby are doing so well and adjusting to their new normal. Congrats to the Uelsmann family!!

Say it Ain't So

Testing a hunch that wine is causing my migraines. One glass of wine tonight, one migraine in the morning?  Watch for my update tomorrow.

UPDATE: No migraine this morning. Sooooo, I guess I'm good. I will continue to monitor the situation though.

Woodstock

So, this post needs a little back story explanation. The museum opened an exhibit about Peanuts. Not the kind you eat, but those funny little characters created by Charles Schulz. Someone had the bright idea (can't say it was even my idea) to have a panel discussion about what type of bird Woodstock really was with our Ornithology peeps. Peeps, get it? Ha ha.

Anyways, our senior curator in Ornithology provided a lighthearted discussion of this topic, with some ribbing to me for making him doing it. Since then we have had some running jokes about Woodstock going on. This morning I got the following photo with this:
"Attached are some recently prepared specimens of birds for our collections...The yellow one is enigmatic; so far neither Dr. [so and so] nor I can identify it. Given your considerable ornithological skills, do you have any suggestions?"

DVR is Good

On nights like tonight I appreciate having a DVR. Elsa was very fussy all night, and it caused us to have the gator game interrupted while we made her happy and comfortable. However, this game has been terrible, so I'm not so sure I really needed to watch it. C'mon Gators, let's do this!

Daily Struggle

This morning was one of those days where it took everything I had to go to work. I sat in bed feeding Elsa, having a good time and I didn't want to leave. I wanted to stay home and play with her all day. But alas, I do have responsibilities which include providing for her, so hi ho hi ho it's off to work I go.

Clean and Jerk

My neighbors are work out fanatics. I'm pretty sure the wife works in the health and fitness field.

One night we heard these loud booms that sounded like tree limbs falling on our roof. So I went outside and stood there staring at my roof with a flashlight trying to see what the heck was going on. Then I heard the boom again. I was standing between our house and the neighbors and the sound came from behind me. I realized it was the neighbors lifting weights. It is the clean and jerk kind of weight lifting. The noise I was hearing was the weights thundering to the ground. It is so loud that it shakes our house, photos on the wall and vibrates the floor.

We have been listening to this for about 2 years now. At all different times of the day and night. Even as early as 3 am. It hasn't been a major problem, because Elsa would somehow sleep through it.

But last night, she was not feeling well and was having an already restless night when the lifting (or I should say dropping) started. Every time we heard the boom she would wake up and cry, then fall back asleep. This was around 1am. I waited for him to stop, but it wasn't happening. A couple of times I swear it sounded like a sonic boom rocking the house.

I finally had to go over there and politely ask him to stop. I know they have no idea how loud it is. And I wish I could get one them over while the other one lifts, so they can hear it. It's so bizarre because we are in houses. And we aren't on top of each other, so the fact that it shakes the house is pretty crazy. He obliged, and was very nice about it. And I thank him for that. Elsa slept soundly for the rest of the night.
